  Cleaning Agents
A cleaning agent should be selected on basis of :

Biotips Image

Compability with the device and the cleaning / washing method selected (manual or mechanical);
Type of soil present (protein soils are more easily removed with alkaline detergents, mineral salts are more easily removed by acidic detergents);
Structure of device , a protein enzyme dissolving solution should be used when cleaning medical devices that have lumens
or joints(eg.scopes)

  Pre-soaking / Pre-rinsing Methods
To remove the visible and invisible debris, after desassembling the devices should be either:

Soaked in cool (20 - 43°C) water and / or an enzyme product that dissolves blood and other proteinaceous materials , or;
Pre-rinsed with an abundant amount of running tap water in a range of 20-43°C.

  Cleaning Methods
The choice of methods and procedures used for cleaning depends on the medical device being cleaned. Cleaning may be
accomplished manually or mechanically or by a combination of these methods.

Manual Cleaning
Manual cleaning is required for certain dedicate or complex medical devices. To facilitate manual cleaning,medical devices
should be :

Cleaned under water to prevent aerosolizing (if submersible);
Cleaned with non-abstractive implements , to prevent damage to instruments (devices with lumens or small holes should be
cleaned with brushes of appropriate diameter.Brushes should be disinfected daily);
Rinsed with an abundant amount of running tap water in a range of 50-65°C to remove detergents (de-ionized and distilled
water is preferred).
