Urine Culture
Collection	:	As per one of the following standard methods MSU / Catheter / Suprapubic, after prostatic massage and before prostatic massage.
Transportation	:	Deep slide / Container with preservative
Reporting	:	Within 24 to 48 hours
Antibiogram	:	See Annexure :1


Pus Culture
Collection	:	Collect in a sterile container
Transportation	:	Swab in transport media supplied
Reporting	:	Within 24 to 48 hours
Antibiogram	:	See Annexure :1
Additional	:	Two smears on glass slide should be sent with the specimen


Sputum Culture
Collection	:
Transportation	:	Send transport swab along with well prepared air dried and fixed smears on glass slide &remaining sputum specimen.

Method -1	:	L J
Reporting	:	Preliminary: 3 weeks and Final report : 8 weeks
Method -2	:	BACTEC MGIT (Florescent)
Collection	:	As stated above however, atleast 3 specimen should be collected In case of smear negative cases and 5 specimen in suspected doubtful cases.
Reporting	:	Preliminary : 7 days and Final report : 45 days

Eye Discharge
Collection	:	Use sterile swab to collect discharge and then insert it in transport media.
Transportation	:	Use Amies transport media
Reporting	:	48 hours

Ear Discharge
Collection : media	:	(1) Insert swab after aseptically collecting from discharging ear Into Amies transport. (2) Make two smears on a clean glass slide, air dry it and fix it.

CSF Culture
Collection	:	Collect in a sterile screw cap tube or sterile vaccutainer only.

CSF Culture (Pyogenic by BACTEC - 9050)
Collection	:	Collect in a sterile screw cap tube or sterile vaccutainer only. Sterile Heparin / EDTA
Method	:	BACTEC-9050 using aerobic and anaerobic resin (Bactec ) media. vaccutainer
Reporting	:	24 to 48 hours

CSF Culture (Mycobacteria, Fungus ,Yeast by BACTEC - 9050)
Collection	:	Collect in a sterile screw cap tube or sterile vaccutainer only.
Method	:	BACTEC – 9050 Using Myco / Lytic Media
Reporting	:	Preliminary report : 7 days & Final report : 45 days

CSF (Cryptococcus Antigen)
Collection	:	CSF in a sterile container
Method	:	Latex Agglutination
Reporting	:	The same day


Pyogenic Culture & TB Culture
Collection	:	Collect in a sterile screw cap tube or sterile vaccutainer only.
Specimen	:	Any Body Fluid including Pleural Fluid,Pericardial fluid,synovial Fluid etc.
Method	:	BACTEC-9050 using aerobic/Anaerobic resin Media (bactec).
Reporting	:	Within 24 to 48 hours

Blood Culture (Aerobic organisms)
Collection	:	5 ml blood in case of adult & 1 ml in Paediatric vial, before Giving any antibiotic.
Method	:	Manual
Reporting	:	Preliminary report after 48 hours & Final report - 7 days

Collection	:	5 ml blood in Aerobic+ in case of adult & 1 ml for Peds + Plus vials.
